You doubt there is a possibility that some of the players may have supported or thought that Barnett was the better qb? Really? How can a reasonable man ever contend or believe that a thing is impossible or in a case like this, even unlikely. It's at least naive to think that. Especially when even Saban comments on a " significant competition at that position". (see link below)

Some unbiased observers would judge Barnett to be the better qb in a pro style offense. It's pretty obvious that Saban and Kiffin have broadened the Alabama offense to take advantage of current rules and trends, but it's entirely....possible....that there will come a game that Hurts is struggling in the passing game, and we'll miss Barnett.

LINK

As Saban said, Barnett visited his office before Wednesday’s practice to talk with him about the future. The Crimson Tide head coach was asked how those meetings go and what he tries to do when a player comes to him with concerns.

“I listen, I try to understand, listen really closely about what their concerns are,” Saban said. “I understand that everybody wants to play. I understand only one guy can play quarterback, although we’ve had a pretty significant competition at that position. Both guys have played quite a bit and done good things at time.

You make indisputable points about players possibly supporting one or the other. It's impossible to say either way. However, Hurts is the best quarterback on this team. I think we've moved past the point of yanking him if he is struggling. He's the man, barring injury.

Moreover, if we get into a game where we have to drop back over and over, I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer Hurts' escapability and less accurate arm to Barnett's arm and lack of escapability.

And I would note that I never said it was the case or even might be a rift among players. I said that a silver lining in this is that Barnett leaving precludes the...possibility...of there being a case like that. Huge difference.

Trying to be positive here because though Pangloss may think this is the best of all possible worlds, I don't necessarily agree.

Going out now to tend my garden.

It sucks for our team, because with the way Jalen is running the ball the chance of injury is obviously increased, which puts a premium on having a solid backup. I guess Blake felt that, even with an injury, when Jalen was healthy he was going to be the starter.

Hope Jalen can stay healthy, and good luck to Barnett. If we make it through the year with Jalen healthy nobody will much remember/care how this went down. If there's an injury and Bateman can't function, people will remember him much differently.

There is clearly arm talent there, but he lacks a presence/awareness that you need to be a starting QB at a high level.

See, this is what I am having trouble understanding. You say that it "sucks for our team we need a solid backup," but then you end your post by saying that he lacks the tools to be a worthy QB for our team. So, you'd agree that there isn't much difference, if any difference at all, between Barnett, and Bateman, and Cornwell, right?

I think we will be just as fine with Bateman or Cornwell as we would with Barnett. Just my opinion.

Hurts is the only one that brings a dual threat to the O. The other 3 are game manager type. And I think the other two that we have left can game manage just as good as BB. BB may have the better arm though.

Up to this point in time, maybe, but Hurts has been pretty bad throwing downfield. I hope he works through that quickly, because missed opportunities can mean losses, especially against teams like UT or A&M.

Hurts throws 90% of his passa to the right side of the field. He needs to work on that too.

When we hide posts, we have the option to hide just that post or that post and all replies. With how much bickering was happening, I chose the latter, so your post just got caught up in that. Nothing wrong on your part.

I figured that was the answer. Just wasn't sure since his response to me is still there.

Thanks!

He had flaws, but he was ahead of those guys for a reason. So my interpretation is that despite his flaws, he as more capable than our other also-flawed options. It's a moot point now, of course.

I was listening to Fowler today and a caller said that during the summer that Blake's dad demanded that he start or he was transferring. He went on to say that his dad pulled that same stunt again during fall camp.
