That was one of my first thoughts as well, hopefully this hire by Auburn starts a basketball arms race if you will in this state that forces us to be more aggressive and proactive.

Marshall >>>>> Howland

How about Tim Miles at Nebraska?

Nebraska just got a sweet arena. I don't think he'd leave them that quickly.

I'd take Howland every day of the week over Marshall.

Howland got lucky to have 2 top 10 NBA players on his team. He didn't really do a damn thing after that, which was at school like UCLA. What makes you think he can accomplish anything here?

Marshall has built a monster at Wichita state and hasn't needed a bunch of pros to do it.

wichita st. is a better gig than Bama.

We already have a Howland, his name is Grant.

Meh he made it a better gig. You still have to deal with a juggernaut instate there.

Plus Creighton leaving the conference hurt them a lot. The MVC isn't nearly what it used to be.

I'd rather Marshall or Miles, in that order, over Howland. Not saying any of them are possible, just the order I'd choose if we had a pick. That said, who knows who the viable candidates will be in 2-3 years...

He's a very good recruiter, towards the end of his career he got in good with Atlanta, he's had a lot of success at both Pitt and UCLA.

Yeah honestly the best case scenario is that this lights a fire under his arse.

We have to remember that the Anthony Grant hire was seen in a pretty similar light as this Bruce Pearl hire. Everyone assumed we had hit a home run.

I loved the hire. Everything I read was that he was a great recruiter and I liked the style he used at VCU. What I didn't know was the he lacked a personality, which has really handicapped him here I think.

Grant's not going to turn it around. He's been here five years.

Gee, winning at Pitt and UCLA is so daunting.

We probably we will have a bounce back year (of sorts) to where we were the last 3 years. We'll be a bubble team and go to the NIT which is really worse case scenario because it'll buy Grant another 1 or 2 years.

Making one final four...I could understand that being a fluke. Making 3 final fours, I think that shows you can coach.
