For Battle's sake Pearl better be unable to overcome Auburn Basketball being Auburn Basketball and Grant finally turns the corner or it may be time reconsider things at AD.

As it stands right now, all he's done is hire a good Women's BBall coach. Nothing else comes to mind rght now.

In football, we demand excellence.

In basketball, we accept mediocrity.

I'm surprised he went to AU, but I still don't think Battle/Bama would have ever hired during show-cause. I believe Mal would have done the exact same thing as Battle in this situation.

In his defense, it has only been a year since Mal Moore passed.

We support football, we don't support bball.

We support football whether we're winning or losing.

We only support basketball when we're a top 25 team, and even then we struggle to fill Coleman. Also, postseason since it's assured we have home NIT games.

that's what I posted. When fans support bball like they do football then the University will make the same level of commitment. Bball "fans" too busy boycotting games.

Who last longer, Grant or Pearl? I'll go with Grant

Seeing as how Battle dropped the ball big time, I think both Grant and Battle will go out together so I'll guess Pearl. Battle was caught flat-footed on this one and Jacobs just worked him over.

We've known since November that if we wanted him, he was ours to have. Bill Battle put his trust in Grant. If we fire Grant after 2014-2015, this will be the biggest blunder of the Battle era as AD.

Mal Moore shoulders blame for being at the helm while Grant's contract was structured- overpaid originally, set the buyout too large to begin with, then extended the length.

I'd say they're both gone after three seasons. Pearl for a better job and Grant because he's finally forced out.

You can't expect fans to support a program which has been stuck in quicksand since that '04 Elite Eight run. It's unfair to expect fans to support the product and we shouldn't be labeled uncaring because of it. I've followed Alabama basketball for roughly 15 years (I'm not that old, so over half of my life) and this season was the worst year...by a mile.

That said, next year will be worse if we go 18-13 or something like that after retaining Grant. IMO, he has to win 20+, have decent OOC wins, and finish in the top five in the conference for me to be satisfied with him still being here. And he has to make the tournament. NIT or CBI and Grant can walk his arse back to VCU or Gainesville to be an assistant.

This is why they will never get rid of Grant. Doesn't matter what they do on the court.

It all comes down to money but Battle's not going to put that in an email so he cites academics to explain why CAG is being retained even though the real reason is his buyout. If bball revenues start dropping I expect CAG will get booted with the quickness regardless of his academic record.

Let's be real. If Grant makes the NIT next year, he's staying another year

I think it depends on OOC, conference finish, and level of success in the SECT. If we go one and done in the SECT while dropping some easy games in November or December, I find it hard to believe we'll be satisfied enough to retain him.

I feel like this is a major blunder but maybe Auburn having a decent basketball program is what is needed for Bama's athletic department to finally wake up and put some effort into basketball.

It is just annoying because he is the perfect type of guy for a school with a dominate football culture. You need someone who will go out and promote the program. Grant does not fit that.

What is the best record you can hope for next years team?
I cannot imagine Bama being any better than a bubble team.

and this pisses me off.

That should be the worst expectation, not the best. Alabama does care about basketball. We've had strings of consecutive sellouts of a 15,000+ seat colliseum. All it takes is winning and an administration that cares. (see gymnastics )
