“The first two years, Jake’s numbers were better, so the indicator of that was four wide receivers were on our sideline that were drafted that are playing in the NFL,” Smart said. “And the loss of those wideouts, the vertical threat, has probably hurt our team. That’s my responsibility, right, to replace them. That’s my responsibility to replace them in recruiting, and we probably haven’t done a good enough job of that.”

Smart pointed out that injuries at the position affected the continuity and timing.
“We had two or three out different games of the year, so we’ve not had a consistent group out there,” Smart said. “Went out and grabbed some transfers we thought would help. A lot of those things fall on it. People can point at Jake, they can point at Coley, they can point at me. I don’t know how many drops we had tonight, but I feel like we had to have had five or six that you could say should have probably been caught.

“And we would have been more explosive if that was the case. I don’t mean that in disrespect. If we had really good wideouts, we’re more explosive.”

He’s not entirely wrong but the issues run deeper

This is why Kirby won't win the big one. He's full of shite. He's going to lose recruits by throwing his players under the bus to protect his QB who has been shite all year. His QB missed a wide open TD. His QB threw two bad picks. His QB for the fifth straight game didn't complete 50% of his passes.

Smart is going to ride Fromm and Coley. The shine is coming off of Smart.

That is still his job....

He needs to hold himself to the same level as his players.

Deep down I'm sure he knows its Fromm. He's covering his arse for the Fields decision.

frick
KIRBY

This abortion of a season is of his authoring.

This was supposed to be THE year.

Poor coaching. Starting from analysis, schematics, implementation, and obviously, results. I'm disgusted.

Great. So it was the lack of players, not coaching, at fault for the offensive output.

How fricking stubborn do you have to be?

The first drive. Not bragging about being able to catch or throw a ball, but damn I could have done just as good or better the anyone on UGA. We had a stinker of a game, deserved to lose, and everyone on UGAs team should be working for 2 men and a truck in a few years

He’s right but he shouldn’t have said it the way he did. He needed to take full responsibility and not make it seem like it was any individual or group. Our experienced WR depth has been depleted this season but we didn’t seem to make any progress throughout the season until the very end and it was still spotty. That’s coaching, IMO.

He's not right. Fromm has been dog shite all year save the Florida game. Most of the receivers are inexperienced. What's Fromm's excuse? I'm sure the receiver like hearing their coach say they aren't worth a damn. I'm beginning to think Kirby is a dumbass. You don't say shite like that.

Kirby is a dumbass and I have thought that since last year. Worse, he is an arrogant and stubborn dumbass.

WR depth is an issue but so is QB, and offensive play calling. He put it all in WR depth.

His stubbornness may be his undoing.

He is. We’ve rotated receivers all season due to injuries and the receivers we’ve rotated were inexperienced for the most part. There’s s reason why the one guy Fromm connected with the most was Cager.

You don’t think the primary reason Fromm hasn’t looked good this season is because of the instability at the WR position? That’s the essence of CKS’ comments.

Most of the receivers are inexperienced. What's Fromm's excuse?
Fromm isn’t making excuses. He’s taking the largely undeserved blame on himself.

But if I were to make an excuse for him, it would be that he hasn’t been able to get in sync with his receivers this season due to their roughness and inexperience as well as injuries. Cager and Jackson spent a bit of time out with injuries, if you recall.

While I’m positive that wasn’t his intent, I agree that he left the door open to that interpretation. He shouldn’t have said it that way. He was likely just pissed off and let his emotions get the best of him. That happens to most people.

I agree with you, however the context of his comments was Fromm’s performance tonight, and CKS called out the inconsistency in our WR play with the several dropped passes we had. We’ve had drops all season and it seems as though CKS was generalizing our passing issues with the comments about the WRs.

Except the receivers. They'd just drop all the furniture.
