Historical comparison UF / Bama / UGA

As we all probably saw many times in the last few weeks, this UGA team accomplished a rare feat. This was only the 3rd time since the SEC split to divisions that a team went 8-0 in season conference play in back to back years. The others were 95/96 UF and 08/09 Bama. I wanted to take a look at how our current run stacked up against those. Obviously, we aren't done playing and there's still a massive amount of hardware that can be added to this, but here is what we have for now.

08 Alabama
Overall: 12-2 (losses to UF in SECCG and utah)

09 Alabama

Total record: 26-2 (93%), 1 SEC title, 1 National Title

21 UGA
Overall: 14-1 (loss to alabama in SECCG)

Total record so far: 27-1 (96%), 1 SEC titles, 1 National Title


I think we stack up just fine against the rest even with the 2022 posteason still yet to be played. All 3 programs have just 1 national title during the 2 year stretch in question. Florida will have the edge as being the only to win the SEC both years, but they didn't go undefeated either season. If Lord willing we win the next 3 games our is clearly the best run of the 3, which would have to put it as one of the best 2 year stretches in teh entire ~90 year history of the SEC.

For reference the last SEC team to win back to back titles was bama in 11/12, they lost a game in each season and won the SEC just once in those 2 years. So if we win the next 3 ours would certainly be better than that one as well.
