I posted in the game day scoreboard about sitting next to ths father of starting LG for Notre Dame. We talked a lot and recruiting came up. He shared some stories and insight.

The one thing that really stood out was the following. His son had lots of offers to include Ohio State and Clemson. It came down to Notre Dame and Ohio St.

I asked him why not Ohio St. He said that programs like that, will have lots of kids on the roster from the same HS/area. If two athletes are equally talented, they'll start the local kid/pipe line athlete.

I had never considered that and found it interesting.

He stated that Urban Meyer was an amazing recruiter. That UM told his son to not play football in the south, and said ND was a fine school. Urban Meyer found out that said starting LG has cousins going to Ohio State. So he located them via email and invited them to lunch, and a tour of the facilities. While this was going on, he faced timed with said LG. The family really liked Ohio St, but went with ND due to their pipeline theory.

The father that I sat next to also played for Pitt as a LG back in the day.
