Very false he is a clemson legacy...which is why he sought the Clemson offer so hard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did it not play out along the lines of he camped there, wanted an offer, but they said something about not offering 2020 QBs yet, then soon after offered the kid from SoCal? Thought the word was he felt slighted by that and immediately recognized how we had made him a priority from the get-go, even with Roper??

Yeah, you're right about that. My bad. He did grow up a Clemson fan.

He said he is completely shutting down his recruiting and will not be visiting any more schools. Of course a lot can happen between now and the 2020 class signing, but I don't think we lose him.

Class of '20. Dual threat QB, excellent compliment to pocket passer Ryan Hilinski. Some other offers were from Auburn, Clemson, UNC, Ole Miss, FSU. Camped with us, Auburn, Clemson and UNC.

He doesn't have a Clemson offer, or he probably would have committed on the spot. You're looking at his interest list, not his offer list.

I like this kid though.

You are right. Read that wrong. Hopefully ruins any chance y'all may have had at flipping him. He's not very pleased about that, I would imagine.

No, I would imagine he isn't very pleased with the situation.

He'll probably stick. If the coaches really thought there was any possibility of extending him an offer down the road, I hope the situation would be explained and he would wait on it. That doesn't appear to be the case, and it looks like he's where he needs to be.

Ok. You guys couldn't run the ball for shite last year #111 in the country and stars do matter especially on the OL. Look at Bama, Clemson, Ohio State. They all have highly rated guys and it shows during games. If WM can bring in elite OL and not meddle in the plays you guys will compete for the SEC/CFP.

Pretty sure all of those teams have better running backs than we do also.

Wolfs first stint here with Spurrier with garbage cruiters he had a class of 6 and 4 were drafted...

Eric Wolford - first South Carolin stint - January 2009 - December 2009

Number of OL signed in 2009 which he presumably recruited for a short time - 4
Number of players from OL class in 2009 drafted - 1

Number of OL signed in 2010 which he presumably targeted, but wasn't around to sign - 6 (1 of those 6 went to JUCO and never made it to campus)
Number players from OL class in 2019 drafted - 2

If you give him credit for all 10 signees from both classes, then 3/10 making the league really isn't all that bad. He probably doesn't deserve credit for all 10 considering he wasn't around for the entirety of either class, but we can do that just to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's strange, however, to say he had 4 of 6 drafted when it is in no way, shape, or form true.

I'd actually argue that stars matter the least on the OL. That's by far the hardest position to project. Of course, there are a few obvious studs every year but after that development is a bigger key here than any other spot.

I'd say they matter most in the secondary

Fair shouldn't have said drafted but many more were signed...sorry

scrooster, I thought Joyner was the kid that was dead set on playing QB and that's why he went to Scar? I know he could have went to a bunch of different places as a WR but didn't he pick Scar because he was told he would be a QB?

The old switcharoo.
Speaking of kids that aren't happy, he's probably one of them.

He's got 2 years to develop before Doty even gets there. He had to have known there was going to be competition and the best win out. I imagine he's going to be used some this year since we have 4 games to do so without burning his redshirt.

On a personal level, I hate it. I know that's the nature of the beast, but it still bothers me at some level that his dream of being our QB may be nipped in the bud before it ever gets a real chance to start. By all accounts, Bentley will be back next year and then Hilinski will take over and then a battle between him and Doty. It's a problem we're certainly not really accustomed to having here.

Yeah, if he ends up getting switched to receiver I could see a transfer coming

On Clemson:
quote:

Fort Dorchester star Class of 2018 quarterback Dakereon Joyner won’t lie. He would love to have gone to Clemson and play quarterback.

But that is not going to happen, not after the Tigers would not recruit him strictly as a quarterback.

On Muschamp:
quote:

“He has mentioned to me that I am that guy that they want, the kind of quarterback that they want,” he said. “He said I’m a good quarterback and he’s looking forward to coaching me.

Charleston P&C

I doubt he's willing to sit out a year just to play for Clemson, but it won't be a good look for Muschamp if this kid isn't at least given the opportunity to show what he's got. Fort D is a powerhouse in Lowcountry HS football.
That said, I'm sure they'll give him an "honest" shot, and he'll get beat out by one of the new kids and moved to WR. He probably already sees the writing on the wall.

He does. He's tweeted a couple of thinly veiled references to it. At the same time, he's also said stuff about sticking it out no matter what.

Like I said before, it's a part of the "process" I hate.

Dont disagree with you at all, but DJ knows he will have to compete to win the spot. There is not another QB on our roster or that is committed to SC that will be able to outrun him. He knows he has to get better at reading DEF and with his passing. Coach Werner will definitely help him with that, but DJ knows that is where he needs to get better and he will work his azz off to get there. In the end the better QB will win out, DJ he will get a fair shot to earn it. Hopefully, he will get on the filed in some capacity because he so dynamic with the ball in his hands!

Me too. Kids get out-recruited though.
Clemson just went through it with Hunter Johnson, who probably could have started at all but 3-4 schools in the country. Once he saw Trevor Lawrence he knew he had to go if he wanted real playing time.
