He was probably talking about a vaccine made 30 years ago for a previous outbreak of swine flu (different from the recent h1n1). The surveillance data for this one did show a slight increase in incidence of GBS for those that got the vaccine. It was pretty small, but higher than the normal rate.
No vaccine since then has shown any similar increase. Some tried to claim the guardacil vaccine which prevents the major cause of cervical cancer caused GBS, but a review of the surveillance data showed the rate was the same as expected for the general population.
Even if there was some mild risk of GBS from the vaccine, I would much rather that than have my daughter contract cervical cancer.
Like I said, I'm a little more sensitive about it than most. Sorry for the thread hijacking.

No problem, just didn't want you under the impression that I was against vaccines. I would never advocate against them. And you are correct, many owe their lives to the vaccines that are available today
