Will Derrick Henry have the best college + pro career of any SEC RB?

He just broke a 52 yard TD. 73 yards in 15 minutes.

Heisman winner. National Champion. Eventual CFB and NFL HOF’er.

I’m not posting this as an Alabama fan bragging. I’m younger so I simply can’t think of a better example.

Maybe. His main competition is prob Herschel Walker, Emmitt Smith, Travis Henry, Jamal Lewis, Todd Gurley, Nick Chubb, Shaun Alexander. Pretty salty list there

and High School. Henry has broken a record in hs, college, and pros. Decades old records at that. If he can hold up for a while(big if for rb's), he will surely break more in the nfl.

I get where you are coming from but Henry holds the SEC single season rushing record. Those others don’t. Walker is the only one with a Heisman and he didn’t have the pro career Henry has had.

Here are the top names that come to mind in terms of previous SEC RB's:

Emmitt Smith
Herschel
Bo

I don't know college/pro stats on those guys -- Bo/Herschel were before I watched football and Emmitt was in the NFL by the time I started watching (and I generally only pay attention to college anyway)

Still needs more time but he's putting a good argument the last few years. He is a monster

Is it safe to say Henry is the most physical freak to ever play RB and be wildly successful at both levels?

Dude outruns cornerbacks.

Right, but Henry also has a ways to go catching those guys in their NFL careers. If the question is who had the best college/NFL careers combined, then it’s all relevant. Smith didn’t have as good of a college career but is the all-time leading rusher in NFL history with 3 super bowl rings.

And yes, Herschel Walker had a better pro career than Henry’s career so far. Walker had almost 14,000 rushing yards, 6,500 receiving yards, and 5,000 return yards in his pro football career

No arguments from me. You provided a legit response. Good to have a legit, level headed discussion here.

You sure about that? I remember Smith running over a good Bama defense at Legion Field back in the 80's. Hard to imagine he didn't run over other defenses in college.

I didn’t say it was bad. It just wasn’t as good as other SEC greats.

He has impressed by improving each NFL off season. He was never the quickest lateral runner, but works his arse off. I don't usually praise Alabama players, but I am a fan.
