The AP Trophy means just as much as the Coaches Poll Trophy (i.e. "crystal ball"). It's a split title.

And USC is the answer. Three different Heisman winners, two NC's on the field, another appearance, 6 or 7 Conference titles in the second toughest conference of the decade.

So what you are saying is that LSU had 2 BCS (1 AP), and USC had 1 (AP). Problem?

USC was the best team on the field that year.

And they still have the three Heismans and dominated the second best conference. Two other years they were quite possibly the best team at the end of the year ('07 and '08).

Surely you don't mean '04, which is what i'm referring to. USC was undefeated in regulation in '03, and LSU got beat by an, IIRC, unranked UF squad by a couple TDs.

Best team in the nation that got stripped of a title for cheating

Auburn was the best team in the nation last year, would you have maintained they were 'on the field champions' even if Cam had been found to have taken money and Auburn was stripped of their title? It diminishes the achievement.

LSU 2 NCs, USC 1.
LSU 2 NCs, USC 0.

Both of the outcomes show the same thing, too. LSU > USC over the last decade.

No, it doesn't. That doesn't mean it isn't important, but the reality is the BCS drives the discussion about national title/national champion. USC's goal in 2003 was to play in the BCS championship game, not the Rose Bowl. No one competes for the AP Trophy, but every FBS team competes for the BCS championship. It is the focus of the season from beginning to end. The level of interest in the BCS rankings far exceeds the level of interest in the AP poll. The level of interest in the BCS championship game far exceeds any other bowl game. So while the AP trophy is undeniably important, it has undoubtedly become secondary to the BCS trophy in importance and interest of the college football world.

I tend to agree with this, and I also tend to ignore the NCAA issues b/c the way I see it nothing reggie took from agents resulted in an on the field advantage for USC.
Good thing you don't run a compliance department.

So wait. It's ok for '03 SC to be "undefeated" in regulation, and it holds merit, but LSU is "undefeated" in regulation in 07, and it's a joke?

No, undefeated in regulation is not a real thing

Anyone who claims that as an accomplishment is a moron, and should have shown up for Overtime

so you're pretty much agreeing with anyone as long as they say its not LSU.

I'm agreeing with anyone who presents a well thought out non biased homer opinion

LSU fans only agree with other people who say LSU, which is pretty typical for this place

You are a hater.

Usc had theirs taken away. So they are out of the discussion.

It has to be either florida or lsu. Florida had one dominant coach. Lsu had two.

Nod to lsu.

And as far as the recruiting violations, do you not see that cheating to get bush in the first place results in an unfair advantage on the playing field.

why exactly does that give LSU the edge?

Florida didn't split their title with anyone, and they never lost 2 games in route to their championships either

so... Nod to Florida

But I still put USC at #1

What? Reggie Bush got money from Agents, not from USC

This wasn't like Auburn paying Cam Newton 180k to come to that school. He was already at USC, and an agent gave his mom a house so he'd sign with that agent when he went to the NFL

Not sure how that is an on field advantage for USC

It is simple really. Florida had maybe five years of great football while lsu had ten.

Ill say it again. You are a hater. A jealous, insecure toddler with a penchant for some cold arse haterade.
