That means 51 of the 52 NCAA titles were won in cross country or track & field—often grouped informally as Arkansas’s “running sports”—and the remaining one was the 1994 NCAA men’s basketball championship. Arkansas also claims the 1964 football national championship, which is generally counted separately because FBS football did not have an NCAA-awarded team championship.

Arkansas subsequently won the 2026 men’s indoor and outdoor track & field championships, so contemporary lists may now show 54 NCAA team championships, or 55 total national championships if the school’s claimed 1964 football title is included. The university’s 2026 release described the outdoor victory as its 11th outdoor crown and its 44th national title across men’s indoor, outdoor, and cross country—an athletics portfolio that accounts for the overwhelming majority of Arkansas’s championships.
