Yet for the 1981 season you don't count Pittsburgh as being a ranked team?
Yeah. Sure.

I did count them.

As I said originally, you went 2-3 against ranked teams over those 3 years.

1980 - #9 Notre Dame - W
1981 - #1 Clemson - L
1981 - #2 Pitt - L
1982 - #8 Clemson - W (Walker injured)
1982 - #1 Penn St - L

This was your statement. Tell me the two ranked teams at the end of the season Alabama played during the regular season. I'll wait. Don't try to peddle the lie that you used only end of year rankings.

In the regular season Alabama played Auburn and Baylor and then Arkansas in the bowl game.

That's 3.

Happy now?

No. See below about your claim that you only used end of year rankings. Alabama played two teams that ended the year ranked in 1070. I mean, you're the one that wanted criticized Georgia for having a weak schedule...or "One of the weakest", when Alabama's schedule could have been considered one of the weakest, too.

You just jump all over the place with your claims and statements and don't seem to want to apply the same logic to Alabama as you want to other schools.

Alabama played Baylor and Auburn in the regular season in 1979, both finished the season ranked.

They then played Arkansas in the bowl game.

Alright. Now that I feel sufficiently foolish...
it seems surreal that many SEC teams will now face 4,5 or 6 ranked teams, and sometimes 2 or more in the top 10 (end of season) almost every year.

I will apologize for missing Baylor...again. I know I should check and double check before posting, I just wasn't thinking that Alabama had played a team from so far away that season. It seems as if long OOC games were less common back then until bowl season.

The SEC is so much stronger now than it was in the past. Probably 4-5 times stronger, even before adding Oklahoma and Texas.

Because the polls were all voter based, they often times put more into record than SoS.

BYU winning it in 1984 started to put more emphasis on SoS. It wasn't ignored prior to that, but there is always the problem of records being looked at before SoS. But after 1984 they started talking about needing better systems like the Bowl Alliance/Coalitions and eventually the BCS where SoS was a big factor. So adding games like the SECCG became beneficial to the conference because it added another quality game and gave the SEC teams who were contenders better SoS to be in the top2 before bowl season.
