I think that's because it's the one metric that is somewhat based on different criteria when the resumes are pretty similar.
However, I think the committe actually uses WAB more than NET in ranking teams but commentators don't talk about WAB as much.
I actually don't really like how NET is calculated and think it is over applied since Q1-4 are already based on NET.
