Have either of you set foot in Lenora's or Ravine?

City Grocery is ok for the price, but I've had a much better food at many other places. City Grocery is my least favorite of the upper end restaurants, but I love the bar. Guess I just have a less refined palate.

There's a lot of titties in oxford so i make my appearances. And I know some of the depot guys. I'm actually passing through tomorrow. I'm starting to grow ashamed of myself.

Yeah I know the guys that run it as well, and their nachos are pretty great. Its a good place for afternoon drinking.

I have and Im sure everyone here has been to Lenora's, which is what you were saying was better than City Grocery. I think Ravine has better food, but I like the atmosphere and location of City Grocery better. Lenora's doesnt compare. I will say this... As I told the guy asking, check the menu before you go to City Grocery. Its not very big, so yes, there are some people that may not like it because of their taste, but Im a picky eater and I found plenty of good eats on City Grocery's menu. Im suprised no one told him to go to Taylor's. That would have been great if no one gave him any details and he just went.

It sounds like you've never been to City Grocery. Thats the exact opposite of what most people say about it. "Its good food, but expensive", is what you usually hear from the nay sayers

The menu isn't very big and not very unique. I not really pro large menu, but my favortie mid south restaurant would be a tie between Flight and Iris.

I've just never been blown away by a dish at City Grocery.

If the semester wasn't over sending him to Taylor would have been a great idea. Everytime I had friends visit Oxford we made a trip out there. I've got to try Palmers before I head to Gainsville.

No, I wouldnt call it expensive and I've only been 6 times. I don't mind spending a bit on food provided it's good.

Other than the sweetbreads its a safe menu. Not saying Lenoras is pushing the envelope either, but I like to see some riskier dishes from City Grocery. Ox tail, marrow, or hell even tongue. To this day the best thing I've eaten were the marrow shanks from Prune in NYC.

I'm a bit adventurous when it comes to food, but I do know good food and I've yet to have anything above average from City Grocery. Agree to disagree.

Sidenote: that the spring menu and is the Hedberg joke still on it.

Bet this is very good if it is really Cobia?

It's sad that Mississippi caught Cobia can't be legally sold or bought.

My favorite place to eat in Oxford is Old Venice. Love the Crawfish Pasta.

Old Venice is good.

I actually prefer the Tupelo restaurant over the Oxford one. It's good....but I don't think it's on the elite level that Ajax is.
