I think that style definitely minimizes risk. Part of the reason Bama has been so successful these past few years is there is a huge margin of era. A&M had to go up 20 points to beat them. They have not been blown out. Against UGA in the SEC championship, they had a lot of things go against them, but they were never out of the game and never had to press to come back.

Oregon's spread works for them, but you that margin of error is much slimmer. Against LSU, DeAnthony Thomas got stripped a couple of times trying to make plays in space and that absolutely killed them.

Let's go back to the Wing T...

Spurrier won with fun-n-gun, Myer and Kelly with read option, Miles wants to throw more and would if WR's could hang to the ball, Saban wants to throw more and did as AJ got better. Good coaches win a lot of games seems to me.

I was thinking the Wishbone.

In all seriousness, top tier athletes that are well coached and who have coordinators that are strategic in their analysis of their team and others are obviously going to be the best at what they do, regardless of their theoretical coaching orientation.

It's awesome to have a team that can take 9 minutes off the clock scoring a touchdown, but honestly, it's can be a little unnerving to go up against a bunch of really good athletes who can just as easily score in a minute and a half all while making your defense suck air.

I don't see the point in lumping Oregon's scheme in with Malzahn and A&M. Oregon may run a spread but their spread is run-first. They bring out four-wide just to thin the defense and then they'll run a trap inside. Totally different from Malzahn ball.

ETA: It is a nice backhanded fap thread though, OP.

It's worked out pretty well for Oregon

It has?

I guess I missed their BCS titles.

I must have also dreamed about them getting destroyed by LSU and held under 20 points by a very mediocre Auburn defense.
