No they don't... Look at the Saints DB Breaux... Didn't play a down of college football and is a starter in the NFL. College football players do it for the same reason people go for any other major (and I'm counting football as their major because you are right they don't go for education); they go to prove they are a worthwile investment.

Football players do the same thing Accounting majors go. Same reason education majors go. Same reason anyone goes to college; to get a job.

Universities use numbers of what their grads do all the time. They use ACT scores all the time to prove how good they are. It's a Universities job to make the school look good for the students, so they can have more opportunities after school. And Students use the university to improve their value.

It's the exact same in football as non athletics.
