KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The brother of Vanderbilt’s starting quarterback was arrested Saturday evening during Tennessee’s rivalry matchup with the Commodores.

According to an arrest record obtained by WVLT News, Javier Pavia got into an argument with event staff at Neyland Stadium after they said to stop holding up a flag that was blocking other fans’ view of the game.

During the argument, a trooper said Pavia, who is Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia’s brother, “appeared to be extremely intoxicated as he slurred his speech and was unsteady on his feet.”

The arrest record said Pavia was “extremely verbally combative” with both the trooper and the event staff, resulting in him being arrested for public intoxication at around 6:40 p.m., which was during the fourth quarter of the football game. Vanderbilt went on to win the game, defeating Tennessee for the first time since 2018.
