Opinions wanted on Big Ten Playoff Proposal

The Big Ten Conference has suggested a 4 team plus one format in which the higher seeded teams get to host a semifinal game on campus. This year, for example, LSU would have played Stanford in Baton Rouge and Bama would have played Okie State in Tuscaloosa. This has advantages over playing in the bowls. It rewards the schools of the top 2 programs by keeping their players and fans at home for an extra game before the bowls and giving them a homefield advantage. It also let's the November weather element come into play. That would be a decided advantage when a Southern school has to travel North, I imagine.
I like the idea. If recent results are any indication, there will be interesting games both North and South in places like Austin, TX, Baton Rouge, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Eugene, OR and Columbus, OH.
What do others think or does anyone even care?

The Final Fours since 2005 (1 vs 4 2 vs 3)
Of the 14 possible games the SEC would have hosted 7 placing 9 of the possible 28 teams
Only three games (2 @ Ohio State,Oregon)in cold weather location. An Average night game in December would be between 30-40 degrees not much of an advantage over SEC teams as much the wind gusts would be over the pass happys west of the Mississippi
Ohio State @ Southern Cal
Penn State @ Texas
LSU @ Ohio State
Michigan @ Florida
Oklahoma @ Ohio State
Va Tech @ LSU
Bama @ Oklahoma
Texas @ Florida
TCU @ Bama
Cinncinatti @ Texas
Stanford @ Auburn
TCU @ Oregon
Standford @ LSU
Oklahoma State @ Bama

The only problem I see with this is the loser of the first game doesn't go to a bowl (as it is currently proposed; I'd imagine there would be some negotiation)
I cannot imagine the loser of the 2 semis not going bowling. These teams will have 10 plus wins. Most will be conference champions. They will be very attractive to the bowls. Where did you hear that?

The climate thing would factor in if a Texas Tech squad went to frigid Wisconsin, ya dig ?

I'm for a playoff. We need one.
I'm for the bowl games. Love seeing good teams play at neutral sites.
Love the idea of a higher ranked team having an additional home game.
I love the regular season in college. "Almost" every game counts.
But I am not quite sure how to have my cake and eat it too, just yet.

I like the current system, except drop the BCS bowls.
I don't want a playoff of any type.

No to this playoff
No to a "home" game
FWIW, No conference will EVER get two teams in a final four in CFB, letting you know now. It will only be champions
So no I will pass
IMO- Keep BCS. Top 4 play in "bowls"- Winners of those two meet in Championship Game
The way this thing is being pushed by the Big10 is just trying to secure their crappy league a spot

the hardest part is scheduling and filling 90-100K stadiums
The idea of having the higher seed host the first round is a really rational solution for a 4, 6, or 8 team playoff because it would be difficult to get that many fans to several "neutral" sites for several games in a row.
March Madness deals with stadiums more in the ballpark of 20K and they benefit by having multiple games in the same arenas in succession (fans of other teams are still there to fill the stands). In football you obviously need a lot mroe butts in seats and you can't play successive games on teh same field.
The Super Bowl offers another option (and something we might see more of if there were a college football playoff without a month to make traveling arrangements). They have some hard core fans and a lot of corporate types there because they can afford the tickets/are just there for the spectacle
We'll see. I'm not big on the idea of an extended (8 team) playoff because you end up with more marginal teams and more devaluation of the regular season. Some years (1999, 2002, 2005) a two team winner take all seems perfect. Some years (2003, 2004) a four team playoff would have been better.

They tried to do the same thing in baseball, I think.

Nope. Itll still be decided by a poll.

link cause you are wrong
Pac12
Big12
Big10
SEC
all champs no other bids
ETA: Do you really think these 4 leagues agree to this without their champion being guaranteed a spot?????
If you REALLY think that you are too stupid to argue with

Any playoff that only allowed conference champs would absolutely screw the SEC.

I think the Slive proposal from a couple years included the top four BCS champs
There is a legal issue they would have to address from the midmajors tho. So there would probably have to be an out for a midmajor or ACC/Big East champ to be included if they were in the top four
To me the polls could be used as a guideline with the top four teams from different conferences included.

exactly
Would the SEC agree to a playoff without their champ being guaranteed a spot??? of course not
so why would the other Big 3 agree to that?
They won't- end of story

The Big Ten formula pairs that poll's top 4, rather than automatic qualifiers by conference ?

You can bookmark this thread. If this comes to pass the 4 teams will be determined from a poll. I will be right, and you will be wrong.

where's the link that says that right now????
doesn't exist so bookmark all you want.
Just what poll would that be trey since you have the inside scoop
and it won't come to pass if it's only conference champs so you'd be off the hook either way playa

The current Big 10 proposal would have allowed Alabama in the final four having them face Oklahoma State in T-Town while LSU hosted Stanford
