Then what would you base your "greatest season" on? Didn't have to waste time winning division and playing that extra game thus more efficient?

Alabama hasn't had the greatest season in college football and doesn't pretend to.
Really didn't even know this was a thing until LSU fans started claiming it recently.
Alabama has had the most best seasons that year in college football. And in that light, LSU had the best season last year, and have the trophy to show for it.
Sorry that isn't enough for LSU fans.
