Oklahoma Sooners have a large following in Oklahoma and across the country as it is a major national brand. Until 2008, Oklahoma Sooners were the number one brand to follow. Second would have been the Dallas Cowboys due to proximity.
There is a post in the thread in regards to the Vegas Golden Knights being the most followed team in Nevada. The citizens of Nevada finally have a team they can call their own. Maybe the Raiders will overtake that title soon.
Much like the VGK, once the Thunder relocated here from Seattle, it became Oklahoma's team. Fans of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa united as one to call the Thunder their team. Even in the years of turmoil (now), the Thunder is still the most followed because it exposes the state of Oklahoma to the world whereas Oklahoma Sooners are just a NATIONAL brand.
