I expect it's an urban legend grown out of the fact that Saban regrets ever leaving LSU for the NFL.
I, for one, am obviously overjoyed he made that mistake.

I couldn't care less if he tried to get the job back or not. That was 15 years ago. We've been through two coaches since then. I was laughing because Early said he guaranteed it wasn't in there then when it was the response was that it was more hearsay.

I really don't either, like you said it's a long time ago.
I'm just surprised how many LSU fans want to believe he "begged" to come back (can you imagine Nick Saban begging for anything) and how many Alabama fans refuse to acknowledge he regrets ever leaving LSU even though he said it himself. It's as if they're still afraid he's going to dump us.
