From the pictures he actually looks like he'd be a Tyler Love type (5* LT recruit from the beginning of the Saban era at Bama. Came from a rich Mtn. Brook family and enjoyed being a frat star more than a football star.) Love never actually made it into the rotation though.

IDK so much more could be going on around him. It would be odd for a guy who was going to have to redshirt anyway to simply say I don't like football anymore before he even finished his time redshirting. Not unheard of but really odd. I think if that was solely it then he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did. He was intent on transferring so if he really wanted to just quit he had the opportunity then.
If he liked partying/being a frat star why not just use the free time redshirting?
