Steady:

Bama/LSU: same things apply, both teams stacked with young talent and not looking to slow down anytime soon.

Georgia: Richt is a good but not great coach and recruits well.

UF: Solid defense, but not much offense. I don't see that changing until a coaching change is made(not necessarily at the top, mind you).

USC: Now that he has them back in contention for SEC East titles, Spurrier will continue to recruit well enough to keep them competitive.

Vandy: say what you will, but until Franklin leaves Vandy will continue to get better.

Up:

State: Up, for now. Recruiting will always bee a challenge in Starkvegas, but the Dawgs look like a solid team this year.

Tennessee: Let's face it, Kiffin left UT in shambles and it was a long road back to relevancy. They probably won't finish above 3rd or 4th in the East this year, but they're headed in the right direction.

Ole Miss: They can't possibly get any worse.

Down:

UK: Joker is not long for this conference.

Auburn: Chiz will be on the unemployment line with Joker sooner rather than later.

Arky: UL Monroe! Really? Smith has lost his team and it's not even October yet. He'll be gone in December, if not sooner, and if the Hogs make the wrong hire, things will get really bad.

Too early to tell:

The newbies, aTm and Mizzou. Until we see how their first recruiting classes turn out, we really don't know.

LSU: 8-5, 9-4, 11-2, 13-1 2008-2011 respectively. I say moving up.

Like I said, not necessarily at the top. Muschamp is a Saban disciple and puts a good product on the defensive side of the ball. If he hires a good/great OC/Asst HC then all bets are off and UF could become an NC contender.

I don't hate Florida or root for them to fail. My honest opinion is that Boom lacks the leadership qualities that players emulate. I don't think he knows how to build team cohesion or instill these leadership qualities in his players. He's severely lacking in all the intangibles that make a great coach.

Perhaps he can mature as a coach, but he needed more on-the-job training. A place like Florida (or any top-tier SEC school) should NEVER be a coach's first HC job. I really think he is destined to fail at UF, no matter how talented a team he builds.

Agree with your comments - I just rearranged them to put the programs in order of their present stability:

Top Four Sitting Pretty for the Most Part:

1) Bama-Steady; Bama is at a peak where they don't rebuild, only re-load. Best coach in America. Really only direction they can go is down, probably the best program in America at this time.

2) LSU-Steady; See Bama above except I think LSU is probably the 2nd best program in America currently.

3) Georgia-Up; early last year, I thought Richt would be fired; I was wrong and he has this program headed in the right direction again.

4) South Carolina-Steady; they will be a 9-3 program until Spurrier retires.

I think Richt is rebounding like Miles did after 2009 - I dunno what their peak is but they are looking like they will return to solid footing. I like Muschamp as well but that's a lot less proven

Arky is just in a transition year - everything depends on their next coach
