Winning the West once in the last 4 years does not = controlling the West.
Combined, they've won it 2 out of 3 and 4 out of 5. Each has won it twice in 5 years. Objectively, that's pretty dominant.

Arkansas is as close to Montana that Petrino will get in the SEC (where he wants to be). He's never leaving.
He's doing exactly what everyone has always wanted...making Arkansas into a top 15-20 school year in and year out. That's a realistic expectation. Putting us into the conversation for an SEC West title every year is great. You can't ask for anything more. It's similar to when a coach says, "we were in position to win at the end of the game and that's all you can ask for."
There aren't many coaches that can compete with LSU/Bama when they're rolling. The recruiting advantages at those programs are just too great. So to disparage Petrino because he hasn't been able to climb BOTH of those hurdles in the same year is pretty juvenile.

Well... not everyone

Has any other SEC coach over the past 2 years won every game that they were favored to win?

no dream job I know of, grew up in Montana and went to a small college there. the fact he'll likely never go back to the nfl and he didnt go to a big name school helps our chances even more to keep him. he has always said Arkansas reminds him of Montana and thats why he likes it so much.

Also, Arkansas is likely to have more senior laden teams year-in and year-out under Petrino than Bama/LSU because those teams will have so many players declare for the draft early. That's not necessarily an advantage, but senior laden teams do tend to perform pretty well. I'm really excited that he's finally got the program to the point where we can redshirt a lot of players. We've gone from playing almost 20 freshman his first year to redshirting over 20 freshman this year. That'll really help in the long run if we're able to do that kind of thing every year.

So the Auburn fans turn up the heat on Gus and his 1.3 million dollar position for not producing this year. Chiz is in way over his head and will be back to his losing ways soon enough. There is no doubt that Gus going to A State was what he wanted and there is no doubt that he wants the Arkansas Razorback job. Now, will it work out to a way in which that can happen? I do not know but I think Petrino will get very bored with losing to Bama and LSU every year and will eventually take over a bigger program outside the SEC like a Penn State or Texas. Only time will tell.

I see it as an opposite. I think it just pisses him off and makes him want it more. I don't think he'd consider moving on until he's climbed that mountain.

yeah for sure, taking Arkansas to 10-2 is something special for back to back seasons. It just sucks that Alabama and LSU are also peaking right now or we would have already made it to Atlanta.
oh if you think as a Razorback fan having Gus Malzahn at ASU is a good thing then you are freaking crazy. Recruiting in your own state just got a lot harder.

Ohh look! It's another LSU poster who can't get the Arkansas Razorbacks out of their head! Shed that arse ugly purple and yellow garb and come aboard. The flagship is still taking passengers. Your friends will understand in time, they will all come aboard too, eventually.

You're retarded if you think we're going to lose a recruit Petrino REALLY wants to aState. Malzahn will take the leftovers and like it. No one wants to play in the sunbelt.

Ok see Dyer and Frazier for starters and Astate is on the verge of being like a Southern Miss school and look for them to maybe join Conference USA. They will be very tough under Gus and will win their conference almost every season.
guess I am crazy

You nailed it. You ARE crazy. Because neither of those players followed Gus to a fricking sunbelt school.

No shite... Why would a highly ranked recruit want to play in the Sunbelt when the SEC is right there. Malzhan will not get the best recruits just because of his name...

you guys are wrong, I mean even if they stay in the Sunbelt and win the conference every year. They will still put players into the NFL and do well. Petrino is already known as not the most personable guy and now with Gus at Astate. We will lose some possible players to him due to his relationships with high school coaches and players.

Combine Petrino with a program that can actually recruit defensive players and you would have a dominant team. I have no doubt he would win SEC and national titles at LSU, Alabama, Georgia, or Florida.

Can't argue there and that helps Arkansas in keeping him a ton. The only thing I see with Petrino is he wants to be the big guy with trophies. He won at UL and was the big guy at a BCS school but was never consider top-tier. He went to the NFL to prove himself, but figured out it was going to be much tougher to succeed and got out of there (a la Saban).
I don't think he'll be content with winning consistently without winning the big one (SEC/BCS). If after a few more years of winning 9-10 wins but not beating LSU and Bama and making it to ATL, then I would watch out (like what HawgAlude said). I could easily be wrong, but that's just what I see from it all.
