probably because in order to line a ball up you need a reference point.
it doesn't even matter, the ball wasn't even measured, which proves that the head official had already determined it was a 1st down.....the guy in the video (who is not the head official) had no say in that....and his shaky spot had no say in that.

I'm lucky enough to get positive feedback in the real world, and judging from your anger, I don't get the feeling you can say the same.

yeah like where the ball or knee hit the ground. not rounding up to the closest yard marker on the sideline. Dude used the first down marker to give yall the first down, why cant alabama fans see this objectively? Hell more than a few have said it looked suspicious

I don't have a problem saying it looks bad. Where I think people are a little bit off is jumping to the paying refs thing. Or not acknowledging that bad calls happen all the time.
Before people accuse a ref of cheating, it seems that they should see what the mannerisms are for every official when he marks a 3rd down gain. If it's not an isolated incident, and if it's only happening to benefit Alabama, critics have a more reasonable argument.

Yeah in this gif it looks like the interior ref is signaling where to place the ball. In fact, there are three refs watching him.

Looks to me like the Line Judge is telling him to move it up some.

Yep, the interior ref is indicated first down. Also, maybe the ref who was spotting the ball thought the marker on the sideline was the ball marker, not the first down marker? Just a thought.
