This is an old story for many but, for those who don't keep up with the internal workings of Alabama, this should be interesting.

Basically, Greg Byrne and Alabama were tired of winning games, sick of being great, bored with all the accolades and success, and were looking to go in a different direction.

So, to go in this different direction, Byrne hired DeBoer within 48 hrs. of Saban retiring. The quality Bryne was most looking for in the hire was someone totally different than Saban because he was sick and tired of Saban lording over the University of Alabama like a colossus.

The guiding principle in the hire, for Byrne, was apparently open-mindedness. He wanted to be open-minded. What this meant was to absolutely not hire, talk to, look at, or even slightly consider a coach with even a tenuous link to Saban.

I mean, Byrne was not going to hire anyone that had even spoken to Saban before, much less coached under him for any period of time.

Mission accomplished, you stupid fricking bitch.

Let's hire someone that doesn't talk back
