There are a multitude of reasons why evidence takes months or years to be made public in almost every accident involving a death.
Hell, my daughter crashed into a freaking roadside internet provider pole and it took 14 months for her passenger to accept our insurance company's payment. We didn't find out they paid it until another 2 months after that.

As you can see from the picture, from the crash site to the curve is about 70-100 yards.
Guess Lacy was going around this curve at high rates of speeds, somehow passed 4 cars during the curve and was able to have 70+ yards to recover and get to his side of the road. ALL while the other driver "panicked" enough to swerve into the other lane.
I can tell you, I've been on this road hundreds of times. If you are going above 45 mph you are going straight into a church

There were several witnesses to interview.
This wasn't the only case the investigators have been working on since the crash.
Compiling evidence for a trial takes months, sometimes years.

Also, you misunderstand. 72 yards at the time of impact. When he was back in his lane was about 100 yards. Over 120 yards when he was re-entering the right lane.
How far would be safe? Why is the law 100 feet for a passing zone if 72 yards is dangerous?
