I would like to write a book about the history of sec football and include everyone. I’m obviously not gonna get the stars early on. But where should I start with every school

ETA: just general history not players

That book has been written one hundred different times. Write a different book.

Ugh, can we not mix politics and CFB. Pretty please.

If you were to write a book, and I’m not saying that you should, I’d like to see you or some other author really delve in to the intermixing of southern identity and football. Put SEC football in the context of larger southern history, maybe start in the antebellum and move forward, and just trace its development through that lens. It would be really interesting to see it done in a serious, non circle jerky “it just means more” way.

I got in to an argument with a Southern Cal fan years ago about the SEC Chant that I still remember. My idea was that the chant was part of a larger feeling of pride in and an expression of southern identity. An identity and culture that coalesced around the time of the Civil War and just now manifests maybe the most in sports. That’s why we have the chant (at least originally, now it’s often sarcastic and just to trigger others) and websites like this when the Big Ten or PAC 12 doesn’t.

You’re going to need to hire a strong editor. Good luck.

You would also want to spend some time talking about the style of football in the South. Most programs to this day are kind of embarrassed, for lack of a better word, if they don’t have a stifling defense. There are exceptions to the rule but that’s a common thread. Flashy offenses can be exciting for a minute but defense is in our blood. I really think that can be related to greater themes prevalent in the South that can be traced back to reconstruction.

Go work your way in to the REC. once inside, collect video and audio evidence for your tell all scandal piece. Next, realize how good the money is and throw all that crap out to continue Alabama’s legacy of power. Profit
