I think you're right. Just in the past couple of days, I've read several statements by recruits saying they wouldn't be interested in A&M if we weren't in the SEC. Even if we don't land all of these top recruits it is still amazing to know that we are in consideration given our past recruiting.

Here you go.

quote:

"What we'll tell guys, 'Don't commit to us unless it's over and you want to come.' Then the message we get, if you're committed to us and you're looking, that's a simple message, we're going to look, too," Brown told reporters. "If we find somebody as good as you that wants to come, you're looking around, we'll take them. I think that's fair."

"My job is to do what's best for the University of Texas and get the guys that want to be here. Guys can change their minds," Brown said. "If you start looking, to me you're looking for something different than you've got. I'm going to look for something different than I've got."

"I like to go to the school, see the coach. The other thing is that if you get a commitment, you'd like for the high school coach to help you keep it. We're going to make sure the high school coach buys into the commitment as well," Brown said. "I need to see those guys, shake their hand, tell them we're not backing out on kids. If we're not, if your young man and his parents want to commit to us, we want you to commit, too, that he's going to stay with us."

Don't forget that Texas controls the University Interscholastic League (UIL) in Texas. They can really make life difficult on coaches that aren't doing their bidding if they so choose...

the sec certainly won johnny the heisman this year. his numbers measured against big 12 defenses wouldn't have been nearly as impressive. granted he would have likely put up better numbers over there, but i don't think he would have garnered near the spotlight that he did in the sec. nor would there have been a chance for a signature win vs a school of alabama's stature.

as for the whole ags missed out on a chance for a national title game, as has been stated repeatedly, their secondary would have cost them early in the year. they perhaps missed out on a bcs game.

What did Mack say? I must have missed that.
