To what question? You asking about how long we've been competitive? I don't need to answer that. Just do a little research for yourself and see we're a top 12 baseball program all-time.

I stand corrected, damn impressive (11 CWS appearances). Have been watching since they first started televising and just do not recall them being there until recently.

Interesting trivia but USC was not only the last team to win the CWS in the old Blatt and the first team to win the CWS in TDA Park, but they were also the last team to win the CWS with the old rape bats and the first team to with the CWS with the BBCore small ball bats.

I used to love the days when the Gamecocks were hitting 100 homers a year ... but let's be honest, small ball is better baseball.

The Gamecocks are set-up to play small ball this year with the speed and contact hitters they have. They'll still have a couple of long ball bats in the lineup, but we'll be a small ball team this year.

I think the dead bats actually promotes steroid usage. Gotta pick up the competitive advantage somewhere.

Not a biggie ... unless you're a diehard college baseball fan you wouldn't know how long SC has been a good baseball program. We're actually, along with LSU, Miss State, FSU and maybe UNC sort of considered the pioneers of Southeast college baseball ... the first programs to take the game seriously and start competing with the west coast schools in the 60s and 70s.

For us it all started in the 60s when we hired Yankee great Bobby Richardson as our HC. Since him there has been June Raines and Ray Tanner - that's stability.

For comparison's sake scroll this page ... pay particular attention to the Top Ten lists at the bottom.

In the 2013/2014 proposed changes list is the removal of aluminum in referring to the bat to "non wood".

I believe just last month I read the NCAA was looking at making the ball more lively, which I don't understand after they nerfed down the bat but whatever.

Non-wood, forgot all about that composite bat. Bad feel, bad sound. Hope wood is the only consideration.
