What did he do that was ever so great?

But he did.

Barry Sanders had fewer than 180 career carries going into his third and final season with Oklahoma State in 1988 due to playing behind Thurman Thomas. He had 373 carries in 1988. If you don't think he got into the CFB Hall of Fame on the first ballot based exclusively on what he did in 1988, you're lying to yourself.
9 TDs & almost 6 YPC the year before his 1988 season.
If he had 6 total carries going into 1988, you wouldn’t hear me give a shite if he hadn’t been first ballot.
One great season with virtually zero production on either side of that isn’t First Ballot territory. Sorry.

Averaging 54.8 yards per game. Those are Hall of Fame-worthy numbers right there. When you take out his 1988 season, he scored 12 total touchdowns and averaged 47.7 yards per game in his freshman and sophomore seasons, all while averaging 5.05 yards per touch. Nothing in any way remarkable at all.
And once again, Mark Ingram finished with fewer career yards at Alabama than Kenneth Darby and was a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Perhaps that while buying stolen property and his father actively shopping for a bag man has tarnished his image. Did you ever think of that?
