County High is probably Hoover’s homecoming game now.

County High came to Hoover in like 02 or 03 and beat Hoover at their own homecoming.

Then I think my freshman year County high beat us in the regular season, before Hoover got revenge in the playoffs.

There was a couple years there, mostly when I was in middle school, that TC High was Hoover's biggest threat in North Alabama.

Y'all dropped off quick though. By the time I was a Senior I met a couple girls who were cheerleaders there and I remember they were pretty much already a joke by then, no longer even the best in Tuscaloosa

COVID almost got Propst

The article mentions it, but he had a really bad bout with cancer that almost took him out before that.

I saw him shortly after he had recovered (from the cancer), and he looked like absolute shite. Lost a ton of weight, and for the first time seemed really old and frail.

I can't believe the COVID didn't knock him all the way down, but he's a tough/mean/crazy SOB, so he probably literally scared it right out of his body.

especially for big games, a long time ago fans would line up and wave rebel flags against the opposing team's bus when they arrived.

When Rush was at Hoover he saw this riding in one year, and without being too specific on what he actually said, he told the players something along the lines of, "Do you see that? They think y'all are a bunch of trash. They are calling our black players so-and-so."

One of the Hoover players took this very personally, and proceeded to single-handedly whip Vestavia's arse in what would ultimately be a career game for that kid

They wouldn't just line up and wave flags would Hoover would roll in, they would run up to the buses and shake them.

I remember a couple of my black friends on the football team talking about how pissed it made them, and how they were out to crack skulls vs Vestavia bc of that shite.

I think it was when I was still in HS they made it where Vestavia students/ fans could no longer bring actual confederate flags, but instead they made these generic ones that were based on the Confederate flag, and had a VH logo in the middle. Idk if that changed and they started allowing real ones again or not, I haven't payed much attention to HS football since in over a decade now, save the occasional Hoover score

That was probably Coach Higg. He and TC were a force during the 90s.

I don't know who replaced him, but both County and Central fell off (bigly) at some point after that.
