No problem with Mac as the QB. Agree on Golding. He just doesn't seem to want to play a physical, will-killing type of defense.

Bama just doesn't have the front 7 they've had in the past. There is no Daron Payne, Marcel Dareus,Terrance Cody, Ashawn Robinson, Jarran Reed, Dalvin Tomlinson, etc.
There is good depth though, but not elite depth like in the past.
The interior defensive line isn't stout like in the past and the linebackers are not as instinctual or intelligent as past inside linebackers. Secondary is average and not special.

Only 2 games in so who knows.
Offense can be very good... defense still looks average, for Bama. Any Bama defense from 2009-2016 would probably be better than this one...unless they elevate their game. Bama's defenses used to just be flat out mean...like Saban's "hateful bunch" from 2011.

No, this years defense is not good enough to win natty. It is good, but a looooong way from great.
