The reason you're going to see so many hog fans (less so on here than elsewhere) with what most would consider irrational expectations this year in particular is that even before Petrino ever coached a game, 2010 had already been declared "the year", so the hype within the fanbase for the coming season has been two years in the making and still has five months to go.

Just to be clear, I'm not flaming, calling Arkansas out, or anything like that. I was just wondering what the expectations were in the general hog fanbase. I appreciate the answers so far!

We're not obsessed just means OM was better than us.

This is very true.

So this year was hyped even before Mallet transferred?

I think we'll end up 9-3 for the regular season. Worst case being 8-4. Best case scenario is a SECW title and a BCS bowl.

^^^^^^^^^^
This.....

As we have struggled in Athens I think the Ga game will impact the rest of our season greatly. Then there is Bama in Fayetteville. While our record against Bama @ RRS the last few years has been good, they are the defending National Champions, a win there will make a big statement.

2 critical games will decide how the Hogs will finish.

As far as Hootie goes....If he beats us in Fayetteville I'll be greatly disappointed but not surprised, after all it will always be his "super bowl"

Forgot to mention that I don't give a shite about Hootie and Co. I mean Ole Miss is cool and all (had the best mascot ever!), but I don't look at them any differently now than I did 3 years ago.

Mallett transferred very early in '08, that may have even been what set it all off.

I've been surprised by that answer in this thread (several posters have given similar answers). From the jawing between Ole Miss and Arkansas fans here and what I've read on hogville, it seemed like another loss to Ole Miss might sour what would otherwise be thought of as a good season (which of course is why I posed the question!)

If a loss to OM coincides with losses to other teams that we should beat on paper, it becomes more of an issue.

Good teams have hiccups and if OM happens to be ours, i'll learn to live with it. I'd be pissed, more than anything, because I know the OM guys on here would just love it so much.

I really think it's a moot point, though. OM is going to be down this year, the game is at home, and the Hogs look better than they have since 2006 (on paper).

13-0 national championship. Nutt means nothing to me. Losing to Ole Miss would be slightly more disappointing than losing to LSU or Bama. Just because 3rd year is a benchmark for the direction of the program, and I think Arkansas and Ole Miss are headed in different directions.

Interesting -- so the consensus from Hawg fans is:

10-2 or 9-3 regular season breaking down like this:

1 likely loss to 'Bama.
1 possible loss to LSU or UGA.
Maybe another loss to Ole Miss or Auburn.
A possible but not likely loss to Texas A&M.

Guaranteed wins in road games against USC and MSU.

Alrighty then.

Judging from this thread it seems the general consensus is that

1) 8-4 would be worst case scenario

2) Going to a bowl looking for a 10th win would be the average expectation

3) We will probably not be 1st in the West, but have done so on avg every 4 years with little to no pre-season hype/ranking

4) Losing to Ole Miss would be damn near unbearable, but much more tolerable if it doesn't hinder the end result.

5) Ole Miss '09 and Arkansas '10 have NOTHING in common.

SECCG

Wouldn't care if we lost to Nutt again, really. It would suck maybe but if the goal was achieved, I would be pretty happy regardless.

"...2nd or 3rd in the West"
That is a realistic guess. I gotta see what Auburn Does for several games before I think your better then them.

Alabama-LSU or Auburn then Arky??
