I know the veazey article came out a few days ago, but yesterday on NAFOOM they had a thread saying boosters had already collected the $6M and weren't going to tolerate anything like last season. TIFWIW
The way I see it....we aren't going to get anywhere if we keep firing coaches every 3 or 4 years.

Was Brewer the last coach we had that stayed for more than 6 years? Cutcliffe was there for 6 I know. Got to let a coach build a foundation. Got to be patient. I mean....it took Spurrier 6 years to get back to Atlanta with South Carolina.

Your next coach will be Gus Malzahn. And he'll dominate instate recruiting and steal a few nuggets from Arkansas and Louisiana each year.
If the boosters already have the 6 million to buy out Nutt then you better believe they have the booty raised to lure their man.
I'm thinking it's Gus.

I agree, actually. I think that we need some better stability as a program.

I'd support this, assuming he's able to recruit well enough and keep a good defensive staff on board.

Malzahn would be like Cutcliffe for me. I didn't like, but I tolerated him.

Organization and long term planning are not in Nutt's vocabulary, hence the clusterfurk QB situation each year.
You're going to bring in Gus, he's going to kick some arse and after year 3 or 4 your administration will have to make a decision to match huge offers.
Boone's needs replaced by someone who understands the business model's and brand advertisement that this new set of AD's embrace.
Long gone are the Broyles/Boones backroom, good 'ol boy deals.

Just imagine that we had 5 winning seasons in a row under Cut, and 7 in a row counting the two years before him. And now we're praying for 6 wins and probably going to keep a coach after 2 straight 4 win seasons.
What happened to us

Gus is a master salesman, has a great product to sell with his HUNH offense and can flat out rake in the blue-chippers.
Defense would be his only question mark in my opinion. His offense will always put up points.

That sounds like Cut. Always had a shitty defense that a good offense had to compensate for.

I just didn't like Cutcliffe. I didn't like him as a person and I didn't like his coaching staff. Yeah he had decent seasons and a really good season. That's why I tolerated him.
I think we will be just fine. How the hell is Ole Miss going to fire one coach after only two losing seasons, when the one before him got 3 losing seasons before being fired?
Now Coach O deserved it. He just wasn't getting the job done. Yeah, Nutt had a bad season last year. But he has helped Ole Miss out more than O did. He has had a little bit of success since coming in Nov. 2007. I'm just not the type to throw in the towel on a coach after one bad year.

I agree. But if our team doesn't even look like it improved next season, I'll be leading the Fire Nutt train.

Gus has networking skills that would make Cut seem like a hermit.

If defense is a problem....I will lead the Fire Nix train. And I think Nutt would be right on there with us in that aspect. I believe he is giving Nix this year to turn that crap around. And I think he will. We just had some terrible luck with injuries last year. But I will not be on the fire head coach train after a losing season this year. Now if this year and the next were terrible seasons....then yeah you better believe it.

What happens when MSU runs up the score for the third win in a row. Hasn't it been like fifty, FIFTY years since that happened?

Y'all have a sick obsession with Houston Nutt. I've never once seen an opposing fan base of any school act like scorned bitches towards a former coach quite like y'all do. It's beyond old at this point; it's fricking creepy.

Most people got over the Tuberville issue after the 99 and 2000 seasons. To this day, I don't have a problem with Tuberville. That is a coach I would love to have back.
