Why is LSU defense considered elite?

This is an honest question. Why is this LSU defense considered elite, yet the Bama defense is considered below par? I know that the Bama schedule has not been great. However I would say that Alabama has played as good or better offensive teams as LSU and has better defensive stats than LSU. Bama has played 3 top 20 offenses in #5 Ole Miss, #21 Missouri and #27 Texas A&M. LSU has played 2 in #5 Ole Miss and #29 Georgia. Alabama has the #16 defense and LSU has the #22 defense. If this LSU defense was a Bama defense of the past 10 years, statistically it would rank dead last.

Guys,
I very seldom post, however I enjoy coming over here and reading other peoples post. I have a question for the LSU fans. Why is it this year that the LSU fans seem to be so cocky about how good their team is? Currently LSU has played 3 teams with a combined record of 2 and 7 with the 2 victories being against SE Louisiana and Liberty. On the other hand Alabama's opponents are a combined 4 and 2 with both losses being to Alabama and Texas AM's opponents are 5 and 2 with both losses being to AM. I am not saying that LSU does not have a very good team. Just curious what you have seen from LSU to think that they will be able to beat Al, AM, FL and GA.

I have been to allot of boards and read about the Alabama vs Georgia match up. There seems to be a perception that out there that somehow Alabama can not match up with Georgia offensively. Also that Georgia has a better pass rush and secondary. If you look at stats Alabama leads in every category including pass defense and sacks. In overall all defense its not even close. Alabama is # in total defense nationally while Georgia is #22. On offense Ga leads in total offense and passing offense while Alabama leads in rushing and total points per game. So my question is who do you like in these matchups and why.

Bama vs LSU Defense Comparison

Hey guys,
Just watching Bama and LSU defense this year has been allot of fun. Looks to me like the Bama defense is built on size, speed and brute strength. LSU's seems to be built on athleticism and speed. Both are allot of fun to watch. The one major difference I can see is the size of the player difference. Here is the average sizes by position.
Bama Line 6.2 305 - LSU Line 6.3 273
Bama Linebackers 6.3 253 - LSU Linebackers 6.1 218
Bama Corners 6.2 195 - LSU Corners 5.10 178
Bama Safeties 6.2 214 - LSU Safeties 6.1 198
