I am taking another trip up to Springfield tomorrow and am going to be staying for the night. I have stayed at the University Hotel and have had a good time in Springfield in the past. I have never been to Branson and wondered if it is worth the drive down there to stay for a new experience. Normally I like places I can walk to surrounding restaurants and bars.

Which should I do?

Is that the promenade one or the convention center? They are right across from each other right?

Do the promenade one. They are right across the street from one another but the promenade is right on the boardwalk and easier to walk to countless restaurants etc...

Any particular bars or restaurants I should hit up? Sucks that it is a Tuesday night as I normally like to watch some sporting even since I am normally sitting at a bar by myself.

killz is probably a better judge. We've stayed there every year for a baseball tournament each year for the last 5 years or so and went somewhere different each time but we enjoyed them all. There was an Irish pub that we never ate at but always ended up hanging out on the ground level of the Hilton. Seems like there was a steak place and a bbq place that were both good. I'll see if I can come up with their names if killz doesn't pipe in here. Pretty cool show right on the water right outside the Hilton at night.

Cantina Laredo
Fall Guys Burger Co.
Famous Dave's BBQ
Garfield's
Waxy O'Shea's
Black Oak Grill

Have been to them all and no complaints on any of them. Not saying they're the best BBQ or best Mexican around, but they're all solid. All depends on what kind of food you're looking for.

Do check out the fire and water show though. Pretty cool.

Branson sucks this time of year. Summers over, too early for christmas deco. Stay in Springfield more to do downtown.

If you'll only be in town one night, do the promenade. Honestly they both are nice. Really pretty area.

However, you need to come in town for a week or so and do Big Cedar Lodge and Top of the Rock. Truly paradise on Earth.

I second that - if you ever get the chance, stay at Big Cedar. It's fantastic. One of the nicest resorts I've stayed in.

To be honest these are reasons why i think staying there right now would be perfect. Not a huge fan of crowds, so its a win win. I don't need a ton to entertain me and the university hotel in springfield is less than glamorous not to mention it is a bit of a hike if its a cold night (i don't drive when I am going to a bar etc)

In Branson stay at the Hilton promenade and ask for a room in the south tower. It will not be hopping down there mid week this time of year.

As for Springfield, the university plaza is long overdue for some upgrades. But I'm not sure of better options downtown. There are nicer places to stay near better bars and restaurants on the South side.

There is plenty of fun stuff to do in Branson this time of year. People who tell you that Branson will be dead are wrong. Christmas season is Branson's biggest time of year, and Christmas season pretty much starts after Halloween.

If you have time, drive to Big Cedar Lodge and then eat dinner at Top of the Rock. You will get a very good idea what that place is like for future reference. Once you see it...you'll most certainly come back. It's about a 15 minute drive from the Hilton on the Promenade. Hwy 65 to Hwy 86.

You must see Big Cedar Lodge and Top of the Rock.

Paradise.

Don't settle for that. Demand another vehicle. What the hell is wrong with you?

AU fan, listen to me. You better stay at the Hilton on the Promenade in Branson and you better drive to Top of the Rock to eat at Arnie's Barn and drink in the cavernous wine and premium whiskey cellar at Buffalo Bar (opens at 5 pm).

Seriously, if you don't do these two simple things...you wasted your trip.

You'll thank me later.

Arnie's Barn (Arnold Palmer's actual barn from Pennsylvania):

Wine and Whiskey Cellar (located in underground catacombs):

In a Silverado now. They tried telling me they didn't have anything left. All is well.

My god those bars look awesome.

Eta: my trip damn better be successful well before I make it to Branson.
