good list CGSC

It reminds me that people freaking out about numbers really don't know what they are talking about. I count about 5 guys on that list that I've been told are considering transferring/retiring. Some will, some won't I imagine. Add in the potential of Kohl Stewart going MLB, Vic Davis not qualifying, guys going pro early, misconduct, and medical situations, and it's almost safe to project 6-10 additional spots beyond the seniors for the 2014 class. With a senior class of 13, that means 20ish easy.

Sherman did a great job spotting talent and developing it. He didn't have the luxury of redshirting a lot of guys because Fran left a mess and that also contributes as guys go thru the program in 4 years, not 5. Shocking to see only 2 guys remaining from the '09 class really. 8 of the 17 guys from the '12 class redshirted (and Kaser and Alexander plus the two transfer RBs). So we were able to play this season with 12 short (redshirting) plus about another 15 empty scholarship spots - many Sumlin chose not to fill at the end of the recruiting cycle. Sherman didn't leave us high and dry and it's going to pay off down the road.

Going a step further: Assuming no attrition between now and August, the following players will not be here in 2014:

Ennis
Gardiner
Askew
Hicks
Hurd
Klinke
Malena
Jake Matthews
Franklin
Derel Walker

If you assume that, unless a redshirt senior is starting or playing significant minutes by their RS-Junior year that they will be "complete", the following players will also be gone:

Gramling
Honeycutt
Joeckel

That's 14 scholarships we will have available + attrition due to injury and early entry into the NFL. I count at least three players in the 2011 class that could fall into the "do not contribute" category. We'll likely have between 20-22 scholarships available.

Update due to the release of the new roster.

11 seniors (definite losses) + 4 under the 85-man cap = 15 scholarships available as of right now.
