I need a new harness. My harness is a pos and I want something nicer. What’s everyone using?

I use a summit and like it. The buckles make the difference, easy to put on and I don’t avoid wearing it.

Pay attention to their weight. I have a tree spider and it is heavy AF

I use a Muddy and like it. The quick release buckles make it easy on and off.

I have the Hunter Safety System Ultra-Lite. Like Loup said, weight on some isn’t to good.

I have a question:

Does anyone wear a harness in a ladder stand or just climbers?

I've never worn one in a ladder stand and was wondering about it.

I have a couple of millennium doubles and will be getting a couple more I suspect.

I hunt out of lock ons, therefore I always wear a harness. I wear them in all stands because I am known to doze off here and there.

I bought the doubles because I feel that they're a little safer (wider seat)

If it has a shooting rail you may be somewhat safe...but it wouldnt hurt to wear one anyway

i followed the recommendation of a few people on here and skipped the "hunting harness" and got a minimalist rock climbing harness. It has been fantastic, when you get tired of sitting you can tighten it up and lean forward on the rope, and you can do basically anything someone who saddle hunts does. you can get basically 360 degree rotation around your tree.

i got the Black Diamond Alpine BOD Climbing Harness

HSS, I don't remember which one.

And I wear a harness in everything not a box blind. Every year AGFC sends out the hunting injury report to Hunters Ed instructors. Every year falling out of a stand is the number one killer. I don't like wearing one but I can't look at myself in the mirror knowing I could be protecting my family but didn't just because I don't like it.

It’s never a bad idea to have a harness on but on most ladders I don’t feel the need. I’m sure everyone’s heard a story of someone getting hurt in a ladder, but that’s my preference. Generally have several attachment points that would need to fail, and much more sturdy footing. Being honest, I wear my harness just out of habit but don’t clip in until I’m in the stand, have several ladders hung without safety lines.

Climbers I’d feel ok without it but I still wear it.

Lock-on, I won’t get a foot off the ground without being attached to the tree. Every close call I’ve had or accident I know of has been out of a lock-on. They’re great tools but with most stick/stand designs a single failure can put you on the ground.

Confirmed my thoughts.

I'm not a fan on lock ons.

Will not use them anywhere on my property. I know they're cheaper but just not worth it to me.
My 15yr old son and nephew will be the ones hunting and I just don't feel safe with those.

I need a couple more ladder stands though

Sure lock-ons can be dangerous if you aren’t using safety precautions but they’re just so much better than a ladder.

Keep the straps new (for all stands). Use a lifeline. Kill deer.

I feel more safe in a lock on than a climber. Especially a quality lock on like a millenium or a lone wolf, main thing is to get aluminum. Don’t try to skimp out on something cheap made out of steel unless you want to change it out every 4 years or so. I’ve seen ladders on ladder stands rust out , same thing for cheap lock ons.

The number one thing i think is overlooked for safety is equipment maintenance. I change out the straps for my lock ons every 2 years. Harness every 4-5 years. Climbers, i change the cables once i see a lot of exposed wires along with rust. These stands and equipment see the harshest elements year in and year out. They deserve a thorough inspection every year.

As far as harness , Muddy is my go to as far as comfort.
