The Off Season Ramblings

We had 14 true freshmen who cannot red shirt. That can be good advertisement for recruiting. Can be great experience for next year.
This season fell off the rails. But with all our WRs hurt how can we honestly evaluate our offense? Every game was one dimensional. This makes it so much easier for opponents to stack the box. That puts more pressure on oline being over whelmed with extra bodies crashing the line. More pressure on QB trying to survive extra rushers. More pressure on RBs to find a hole.
Its even hard to evaluate our D since we had few games with complimentary football. In 8 SEC games we never scored more than 2 TDs in any one game. All our ills are offensive driven.
BV made a huge error in hiring Seth as OC. He fired him but the damage was done. OC works all off season on plays and schemes. So the interim is limited in what he can do as its not easy to add new plays in season. JFF did better but then he does that idiotic TE pass play and lost any credibility.
Our D had issues yesterday but it was our ST that allowed a TD return right after we scored. That was our blueprint all year long. We make a good play and then give it right back. We had all the momentum and lost it right away.
And our first half surrender cobra was pathetic. On a 3rd down play using Sawchuk we settled for FG. Then we let them score and with 2 timeouts we just throw up the white flag and kneel it out after a give up run into gut play. Players saw that too. And that was the end of game. We decided to waste an opportunity, so players seemed to start giving up as well.
I think we have some good defense which will be much better if offense can score. And our offense can be potent if we have any WRs who can get open. Arnold can throw the ball if given time - look at that long pass we had in first half he had great protection and time. I think he played conservative not wanting to have a turnover as coaches likely preached that. But with a competent offense he will be really good.
This OC hire is huge. No matter who we hire there will be naysayers. But almost anyone can be better than what we had (an analyst and then a TE coach).
Clock is ticking and we can make great strides with a good hire.
