Oklahoma Sooners’ career rushing record progression—a mark rewritten by eight legends across 80 season.

Joe Golding (1941, 1946): 1,217 yards
Held the record: 3 seasons

Jack Mitchell (1946–48): 1,520 yards
Held the record: 1 season

George “Junior” Thomas (1946–49): 2,230 yards
Held the record: 16 seasons

Jim Grisham (1962–64): 2,404 yards
Held the record: 5 seasons

Steve Owens (1967–69): 4,041 yards
Held the record: 8 seasons (Actually broke record during his Jr. season in 1968)

Joe Washington (1972–75): 4,071 yards
Held the record: 5 seasons

Billy Sims (1975–79): 4,118 yards
Held the record: 38 seasons

Samaje Perine (2014–16): 4,122 yards
Record holder for 11 seasons—and counting.

From Golding to Perine, the standard has risen from 1,217 to 4,122 yards.

24 years ago today: Two blue blood programs met on Owen Field.

OU trailed Alabama with less than three minutes remaining, but Renaldo Works helped save the day with arguably the biggest play of his career.

A 39-yard play on a shovel pass got OU inside the 10 and Kejuan Jones scored on the next play.

A defensive score to end it helped the Sooners prevail 37-27 over Bama.
