Official statements from Brent Venables and Oklahoma’s new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle
Potentially noteworthy that Venables says he’s excited to see Arbuckle work with the current staff - naming each position coach by name

Pretty shortsighted analysis honestly. Glad Joe and Brent didn’t ask for your opinion on the matter.

Joe abstained from a HC search, instead blindly went with the knee-jerk 'family' hire. Joe and Brent thought Seth Littrell was the obvious choice at OC. Brent thought it's fine to sign only 4 total OL recruits over 2 seasons. It took Brent 3 seasons to realize the team needs a QB coach. They haven't exactly stockpiled decision-making confidence.
Hope my gut instinct is wrong, I'd love to see a complete 180 wrt the offense. We shall see.

Hey Naked, take a deep dive into this. And keep in mind Leach had good success in SEC and with lesser players than OU has.
Also, did you take OU out of your header for a reason? Did you quit on the team? Just curious

why on earth is JJF being listed as a coach Arbuckle would work with. The guy can't evaluate talent and cant develop it. Keeping him around shows that the mentality which has delivered us 2 6-6 seasons hasn't really changed :-/

Thanks, I will check it out.
I did some research on the names being thrown about. What struck me about Arbuckle's offense is that it looks a lot like the bastardized Lebby offense that Littrell was trying to run, and stuff like shotgun on 3rd & a foot, etc. Honestly, I thought Craddock was a bigger reach although I like that he runs a pro-style offense.

I think fans are not looking at the bigger picture.
You cannot install a completely new system in the middle of the season. At best you can add some wrinkles and call different plays (but are still based in original OC).
It takes all off season to create and get your system in place. And think about how you need to communicate that to not only players but to all the position coaches so they can work on it. JFF was trying his best to use and modify a system - but holy cow he was short our top 6 wrs and many other players.
So now you have 2 hands tied behind your back. What he did vs Bama was brilliant. And he laid an egg vs LSU - but LSU knew we were one dimensional and had a plan for it. That TE pass play was a fireable offense for sure - but I have to give him some leeway overall due to circumstances.
JFF was not the reason we lost our games. Once you get past that then why can’t he stay and work with new OC? He has a greater understanding of what he needs to do at his position now that he had to work with others to game plan.
The root of our problems were many:
- Seth Littrell was a bad OC and that hurt everything
- Top 6 wrs hurt all season. Forces us into short pass and run game thus making it easy peasy for opposing DCs.
- Oline injuries hurt. But since teams were loading box and sending extra defenders no oline could stop more bodies than we had.
- Freshman qb. He had no chance to throw. Either getting pressure or no one to throw to.
Now imagine we get healthy wrs and a new scheme and oline back with experience plus portals and a new class. Our D is really good but had to do way more work than most others in the country due to pathetic offense.
Seth was bad but our circumstances were also a big contributing factor. In a way it was good for is to expose Seth and had we done better we might have kept him. Now we can install a system and get players back.
I think once we have a passing game our line will look much better. We do need to add some oline portals and we will. But I’m liking what I see of the new OC.

Man I saw that. Our TE situation is a joke. And I love DeMarco, but Cale developed RBs better than he does. Enough with the 'family' BS. Let this guy bring in whoever he wants to.

All the position coaches know its do or die next year and will give it their all. It can’t be understated how much injuries changed our season.
We do need to look into our medical team. That to me is a problem. LSU qb got hurt bad and comes back in. Without him I think we win. And our RB X Rob got dinged a little and was on sideline wanting to come back in and medical would not let him. Does BV have any say over who is assigned our medical team?

Pretty good track record. And should help with recruiting not only QBs but WRs/TEs and RBs plus Oline

I just think we can do better than JJF as a tight end coach. That position hasn't been relevant since he got here, and outside of an obvious stud in Mitchell, he hasn't been able to ID or bring in talent. And once they get here, they aren't getting any better.

I saw some rumblings on Twitter that BV has been overridden by leadership when it comes to medical staff, and that he brought it up as an issue but was shot down. Who knows the truth though.

One thing about the position coaches staying. Our new OC will talk to them one in one and get their buy in. And if they don’t they’ll be gone. But this takes time.
Right now I imagine our OC is looking over recruits to salvage them. But its a dead period so I think all he can do is text them. But a lot of players have agents now so word can get to them about what staying will do to help them be a success under his system.
