We will play better teams than he played before. But we have better players than he had before too. These are great stats:
Ben Arbuckle’s offenses have been potent in his three years as a play caller:
2022 (Western Kentucky): 6.71 yards per play - #12 in the nation
2023 (Washington State): 5.94 ypp - #51
2024 (WSU): 6.62 - #10

2023 was the final season of the old PAC12. So Arbuckle has gone against a decent level of talent and program gravitas. He has at least an idea of his new conference. As a sophomore backup that season, Mateer would have studied that level of PAC12 opposition. No doubt they've been in the film room looking at SEC tape. It appears they won't be caught flat-footed.

From earlier today
Bill Bedenbaugh just spoke with local media.
-Says he’s never had two freshmen as talented as Fasusi and Fodje. Says both will play.
-Compares Ben Arbuckle to a young Lincoln Riley. Says he’s one of the best he’s been around.
-Says Mateer has been sitting in OL meetings.
2 minute clip (he lost weight)

So, theoretically speaking, let's say the description is real. "Gambling on sports" ... would that include a friendly wager with a homie? No Nassau on the golf course??

I find the whole thing funny. Says he didn’t bet and I believe him. Kids use social media to have fun and prank. Short whorns are worried about him. Look at our QB situation the past several years. We’ve had one good QB since BV arrived. In all that time the defense has been rebuilt, just lacked offense after a few decades of the best offenses.
I also hear Hawkins is doing great and if he needs to be forced into action he’ll be more polished than last year. Our qb situation is the best since the rebuild started. And we actually have an OC again.

I was impressed with Hawkins last year, when he didn't have pass rushers on him 17 milliseconds after the snap..

Also think about what Hawkins went through. Arnold got all the press and glory. We had no QB coach. We had a horrible OC. We had no one to throw to. We had limited OLine. Just a disaster.
And Hawkins gets his number called. And then the OC is fired. I mean, how anyone could learn under that situation is almost zero. Look at what we have on staff now. An actual experienced OC and QB coach. I can only imagine how much Hawkins is learning.
Will pay off if needed. And let’s face it, very few QBs go thru a season and play every meaningful down. When his number is called he’ll be ready. And much respect to him for how he’s handled everything. Could have easily bolted but stayed knowing we brought Mateer in.

Speaking of Hawkins, here’s a nice throw and catch. Everything I’m hearing about camps is how much the offense is improved. Coming from beat writers allowed to visit practices. Said in one practice alone how they saw more wow plays than all of last years fall camps.

Long way off (class of 28) but you have to start early. He’s the #1 RB in that class so far.

Isn't part of the game to run a psy-op and lead the opponent to mis-underestimate us?
I'm thinking we want the opponents to think we are like last year.
Then when we apply the smash to the opponents mouths, and the other team is on its backside, they will realize they are doomed.

No. We are being negative recruited. Until we win in conference we have to use every tool. Having a new OC the O recruits need to see some good stuff.
