Either. Grits are awesome.
Hashbrowns cooked in bacon grease in a cast iron skillet are tough to argue with though.

Having never lived in an area that is culturally the deep south, I have to say hashbrowns.
Grits are not common around here. I wouldn't know where to get some at a restaurant, even.

Grits. Good god, I can't believe so many Yankees are in this thread pretending to be Southern. Hashbrowns are good, don't get me wrong. But if it's an either/or question, grits win hands down. They're our cultural heritage. Hashbrowns are, like, Irish or something. They're a compromise between deep South grits and New England home fries.
