Originally it was for clothespin when you hang them on a clothes line. But I also think it’s a stabilizer. That’s how they last longer than washcloths. And I’m sure you’re all loofa people. BUT at some point you’ve used a washcloth I’m sure. They unravel or fray a lot easier than towels but they are the “same”.
