Tigers beat the Gators 5-4 to take the series. MU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on a 1st inning grand slam for Genevese and a 2nd inning solo homer from Stangal and then holds on for dear life for the game and series win. Freshman pitcher Funicane didn't have her best stuff, but battled through it for the win. She struck out 10 batters and threw over 180 pitches today! get that girl some ice! good weekend for the girls.

Finucane is the real deal. I think Mizzou has another stud pitcher coming in next years class. I see Finucane and the new girl being the main stays on the mound with Stangel spelling them in relief while Stangel's bat is an every day bat either at DH or at 1st.

Thanks for passing it along Kev. That is an absolutely HUGE series win for the Tigers. I could be wrong, but I think UF had the #1 RPI going in.

yes... big series win for the Tigers. UF indeed had the #1 RPI coming into this series. The future is looking bright for sure. on a side note: way to go fox sports florida for breaking away from the game with two outs in the bottom of the 7th and the go ahead runs on base for the rays pregame show.... SMH!

Damn. That's brutal. 2 outs in the last inning. I didn't even know it was on TV. Stangel worries me on the mound a bit. I think she'll be a good complimentary pitcher. Someone to get you an inning or two when needed or to pitch midweek games. Not sure I trust her yet for a full game against top competition. But I also think that will be a perfect role for her next year so she can concentrate more on her bat. Your thoughts on Stangel?

Stangel can hit for sure. I would like to see her bat in the lineup more often going forward. pitching wise... she's making a big step up in completion level from small town high school to the best softball conference in America... I'm willing to give her some time to grow into what she can be. both pitchers struggled a bit this weekend.. 1) florida had some very good hitters and 2) they haven't played in this kind of heat yet and were having problems with their grip on the ball. I think she will grow into a solid #2 or better in the long run... both are just true freshman remember.. lots of run to grow and improve

Incoming recruit, Lowary, is supposed to be a stud as well. Where do you see her fitting into the rotation? I guess I should let her get to campus before I start talking about where she fits in, but my way early guess is that Finucane will be the #1, Lowary the #2 and Stangel will eventually be throwing nearly as many innings as both of them but it will be in relief and midweek games. Who knows, but I do agree, the future is bright. Really young talent on this team.

hard to tell sometimes how their prep school successes will translate to the next level, but, I like the recruits the Tigers have coming in and the direction in which the team appears to be heading. Lowary has great prep numbers and I like the fact that she's a lefty...
