Kentucky is no more talented than we are in the game we just played. It was close enough, and will be close enough most years that the team that executes better will win the game.
We lost a very close game to them on the road.
So we, as fans, should lower our expectations to say that the Mizzou program is on equal footing with UK? You're right. That would make life easier. 1 SEC win or so each year. Making a bowl game on the odd occasion instead of regularly. So much easier.

Agree...too many unrealistic people on here. I’d love to win 10+ every year, but it’s not going to happen anytime soon. We aren’t a destination place for coaches, and not considered upper echelon in football for recruits.
I think we all realize this. The difference is some here seem content with being on equal footing with UK. Others believe that the program can be and is better than that. That does not mean we are blue blood status and it doesn't mean it's 10+ wins per season but it sure as hell means making a bowl game more times than not.

Kentucky is 3-2 in league this year. What are you talking about?
Posted on 10/29/17 at 9:48 pm to reedus23
Oh I agree with this completely. I want to be the best we can be, and win as much as possible.
I just think overall, GP was on a down year when he left. Odom comes in, and it seems to have gotten worse. A lot of players were dismissed, some left, some really didn’t pan out. I think we’re behind the vast majority of SEC east teams in Talent right now. I also think no matter if we fire Odom and hire a new coach, it’s still going to take 3-4 years of recruiting to get us back on track. This isn’t going to get fixed overnight no matter who is coaching.
Kentucky has done a very good job in a tough place for football success. The last 5 years has been on an upswing for them. Cudos to them. We should be better, and expect to be better than them, but they’ve whipped us in recruiting and coaching for about the last 5 years.
I hate where our program is right now just like everyone else. We aren’t even mediocre, we’re below that. But, how do you fix it? You really can’t week by week. It takes time. Takes recruiting better players. Takes good coaching. Who we invest that time with is up to Sterk, but with so many underclassmen contributing on a higher level than where they should be, I really think it’s unrealistic to expect a lot from this team. So, I look to next year and the year after that with what we currently have, and what we are losing to graduation, etc...and I really think the future is brighter than most on here would think. We got some pretty good freshmen and sophomores, and I think we will be better next year and better the year after that. Now, 3 years from now we can look back to the 2018 recruiting class, with all the misses from in state and others, and we might be right back where we are today.
That’s what makes it tough to be a non blue blood. We can’t just re-load each year. Sometimes we have to rebuild. I just think we’re in one of those phases right now. I wish it was different at Mizzou, but that’s reality.
When we are in this type of situation, coaching stability goes a long way in re-building a program. I personally would like that guy to be Barry Odom, but if it’s not, then the next guy needs to be somebody that we will be happy with for 10 years or more. We can’t afford more hiring mistakes, or we will be bottom feeders for even a longer period of time.
I apologize for such a lengthy explanation of my views, but without elaborating more, (and I think you understand what I’m saying) this is pretty much it in a nut shell.

2, 2, 0, 0.
Number of conference wins each year before we decided to take the reigns at the bottom of the SEC.

I get it. I would have liked it to have been BO. At this point I just seriously doubt it's him. I think the writing is on the wall just like it was with KA. I think BO is in over his head whether it is in game coaching, recruiting, not hiring a DC, trying to do too much himself. My concern is that each additional year with BO is just delaying getting that 3-4 year clock ticking.
What freshmen are you so high on? Albert O is the only one off the top of my head that I can think of where I go "Man. 3 years just isn't enough. I want to see more of him."

What in the world are you talking about?
They won 4 games SEC games last year. They've won 3 already this year.
Nobody is saying they are a great team, but to say we should NEVER lose to them is just flat stupid.
The all time series was 3-3 before Odom took over. Get a grip dude.

It’s sad that you think Mizzou football is anywhere in the same stratosphere as Kentucky football. The more I see your posts the more I see why many Mizzou posters that expect to win and compete have turned on you. You seem to get offended when anyone here says we aren’t a doormat.

People cant read, comprehend what they read, or both.
I don't know how to change that. Wish I could. I even specifically asked that people read, comprehend and focus only on the subject matter of the OP and well....

I think Rountree will be good. The 2 defensive linemen. (Whitesides is huge) Brooks and Miller when healthy. Of course Albert O is at the top of the list. From all reports I’ve heard, most are thinking Daron Davis will be an immediate contributor when he finally gets on campus. Only time will tell, but we have 11 freshmen playing currently.

You're right man. NEVER was an exaggeration. Hell, even the Cubs found a way to win the World Series again. So it should be a rarity that Mizzou loses to UK. Unless, of course, you accept the fact that their program is and should be on the same level as UK, in which case enjoy continuing to be the laughing stock of the SEC.

I'll buy on the linemen and Albert O. I think Roundtree will be serviceable. Just hasn't shown me what I saw out of Crockett in his freshman year. Haven't seen enough of the LB's to say either way and obviously not with Davis as well. I hope so. But just don't know.

Nope, never said that. In fact, in this very thread I said we should beat them consistently.
Was only pointing out the absurdity of the never claim, which you've admitted to so it's all good from my perch.

Oh I will absolutely admit NEVER as in not once should there be an upset is an exaggeration. There too, I guess Alabama can't even say that they should NEVER lose to UK.
On the other hand, you still put Mizzou on the same playing field with a basketball school.
