Knocking in the guys when you're already up by 4 runs isn't clutch. Same is true when you're down and the game is out of reach.

He's not terrible, peoples automatic zero summing causes them to take my criticism of him as me thinking he's awful.

Then instead of poo pooing the stats provide something quantitative to back your opinion. Thats the problem with your argument. Its all subjective and flies in the face of what the stats tell us. YOu then move on to disparaging stats which tell us a whole lot more than "your gut".

Im sorry man, I m not trying to be argumentative but I really dont get the Holliday hate. Its not just you, there are others as well and when they are presented with cold hard numbers that prove the opposite it always ends up back with some form of narrative disparaging "statistics"

Matt Holliday 2013 RISP/Clutch situations:

2 0uts RISP: AB:47 RBI:27 .426/.534/.596 OPS:1.130

TIE GAME: AB:182 RBI: 28 .302/.405/.484 OPS .888

Within 1 run: AB:295 RBI: 48 .295/.389/.471 OPS: .860

Want me to go, or are your ready to admit you just dotn "like" him and there is nothing really rational about your opinion?

I think you have a case of zero sumitis, which makes you incapable of seeing what I'm saying in full spectrum.

You think I'm saying he's useless, when I'm not at all.

There is a reason so many people dislike Matt Holliday, a lot of these people have some level of intuition which allows them to pull together things that aren't found on stat sheet.

Well there are rational things about my opinion.

He's a terrible fielder. He won't teach the young OFers anything about playing their position.

He's been mostly very bad in the playoffs.

Was so useless that he wasn't even missed in a Game 7 of the World Series.

He has one approach at the plate which is swinging like a cave man.

He has 2 home runs, yet he's a number 3 hitter.

He led the league in double plays last year.

He's not a leader.

There are plenty of things to dislike about him.

So what do you guys think happens tonight?

We rebound and win big?

We rebound and win close

We continue the 2014 Cardinal way and shite the bed?

We lose close?

No, thats not what Im implying you are saying at all.

But when you say things like "He is unclutch" when there are quantifiable means to judge such things, that were provided to you in this thread, makes your opinion specious.

I figured you would try to imply you are on some higher level of thinking than I am, its the natural progression when facts are interjected to counter a very subjective position or argument the logical fallacies start flying, in this case an ad hominem.

Here's a theory to blow your mind.

All relentless stat supporters of Holliday are deep down submissively bi sexual and are subconsciously devoted to protecting him against haters because they really enjoy his strong physic.

For all the stats on Holliday a lot of other relevant things can be said, and these relevant things are always and completely ignored by the stat slaves.

I was not being serious.

But really, if you want to be fair you have to recognize the negative things about him. The fact that he's very bad in the field, not a leader, a double play machine, not hitting home runs, mostly disappearing in playoffs ect should not be ignored when making a complete judgment of him.

I think he is a bad defensive outfielder.
I think he had some bad series at the plate in the Play-offs.

How do you know this?

a double play machine

He isnt any worse that a lot of similar players.

quote:

not hitting home runs

He hits around 20-25 a year. Its who he is. He is a gap guy and as long as he drives in his 100 runs, who cares about HR.

He's just not. But that will be impossible to prove. Maybe I could find a stat for it somewhere.

Well he is because he led the league in them. Since I'm a fair person and not an unfair person like you, I'll admit that the amount of hits guys in from of him had last year made it possible for him to lead the league in dp's.

He'll be lucky to hit 15 this year. And I do care because the stress a serious HR threat puts on pitchers is a big deal. When you've got a guy who can go yard at any time is causes stress that gap hitters don't cause. When a lineup rolls over multiple times in a game without applying that stress to a pitcher it's easier to pitch.

A little time in Omaha would probably do him a whole bunch of good. I don't know why they are so reluctant to send that guy down.

The way the blues ended and the cards sputtering....their going to send STL into the Great Depression. I hope the birds get things going, because thinking about the rams season this early wasn't in my top 10 until August.

Cards will have a very different roster by late July.

If they can hang on until then they should be okay.
