I noticed this during the game and just thought to discuss it. Just before the kick, you could tell Mullen was telling them to scoop it and run, I mentioned it to my dad watching the game before it happened.

My question I guess is did they see this on film? Had UK already ran that play and given them the idea that they could return it? Curious if anyone has heard Mullen comment on it.

Regardless, it's a hell of a job by our staff to recognize that they could return the kick and end the game. Goes against everything you're ever taught about recovering onside kicks. Blows my mind that they were expecting it, even with the trickery of kicking it to the opposite side.

I was fricking pumped. I teased state down to -7.5 and it allowed me to cover.

If you re-watch it, the Kentucky players look damn near lost

Most real teams, especially some staffs like ours, cover all kinds of shite like this that we never think about. I wouldn't doubt it.

Bob Carskadon on the B&B show said Mo day that they had worked on it that week. I am assuming that the coaches knew from game film that they would kick it that way for an OSK.

Have seen this 3 other times: McAllister for the Rebs against Texas Tech in the Weedeater Bowl.

Twice in same game by the Oakland Raiders.

I felt like a genius after the play because I told my CA buds just before the kick that we need to scoop this baby and take it to the house. One guy said, "Why?" I said, "Because we suck at recovering the kicks once they get on the ground. I would rather go down in flames trying to make a play than watch our guys fight for a football in a crowd."
