Suggestions to help member keep up with a thread

On several message boards i participate in when you click on a thread you have the option to click on "new posts." This was you can keep up with a thread without having to wade through posts you have already read.

Click the latest post on the right. Where the username and time are. It'll take you to the latest post.

Yea but how are you supposed to know that he gone if you don't read it 12 thousand times?
